Boca Raton, Fla. — The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team began its 2025 campaign with a strong performance, earning a 1-1 draw against Florida Atlantic University on Thursday night at Flagler Credit Union Stadium.
The Greyhounds (0-0-1) set the tone early, controlling possession and generating consistent offensive pressure. Their efforts were rewarded in the 35th minute when senior defender Riley Kennel broke the deadlock, scoring off of a Savannah Manset rebound, for her first goal of the season. Loyola's back line, anchored by goalkeeper Brigid Mulholland, held the Owls (0-0-1) scoreless through the first half, limiting them to a single shot.
Florida Atlantic equalized in the 53rd minute on an unassisted goal by Isabel Bostic, but Loyola continued to dictate play. The Greyhounds outshot the Owls 13–6 overall, including a 5–3 edge in shots on target, and dominated in corners, holding a 5–0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Greyhounds searched for the game-winning goal over the last ten minutes, recording five shots, but could not find the back of the net.
Mulholland finished with two saves, while Ashley Small of FAU made four saves. In addition to Kennel's goal, Manset's recorded her first career assist, as she was tied with Kennel with four shots in the game.
Loyola will look to build on this performance when they host Saint Peter's in their home opener on August 17 at Ridley Athletic Complex.
