Bethlehem, Pa. — Loyola University Maryland scored with 18 minutes left in the game, but a second-half rally wasn't enough in a 2-1 setback to Lehigh at Ulrich Sports Complex.
The Greyhounds (1-4-1, 0-1-0 Patriot League) fought back after falling behind 2-0, with senior forward Charlie Herley sparking the charge. Herley buried a well-placed header in the 72nd minute off an cross into the box from Jack Endacott, breathing life into Loyola's attack and putting the Mountain Hawks on their heels.
From there, Loyola controlled much of the pace. The Greyhounds generated seven second-half shots after being held without an attempt in the opening period, a surge that highlighted their ability to adjust and battle back. Curtis Wagner and Cole McEvoy each tested Lehigh goalkeeper Anton Kinnunen, while David Williams had a last second shot go high in the 89th minute.
Goalkeeper Dylan van der Walt kept Loyola within striking distance, finishing with three saves, including a diving stop in the 61st minute that denied Jason Pynadath from close range.
Despite the loss, Loyola showed promise in the second half, outshooting Lehigh 7-4 after the break and pressing until the final whistle. The Greyhounds also drew three corner kicks late, pinning the Mountain Hawks (3-1-2, 1-0-0) deep in their own end.
Loyola looks to carry that momentum back home when it hosts American on Sept. 19 at Ridley Athletic Complex.
