PHILADELPHIA — Loyola University Maryland men's soccer showed resilience in the second half, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 3-1 setback at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday night.
After conceding three goals in the first half, the Greyhounds regrouped after halftime and controlled much of the play. Loyola outshot the Hawks 9-0 in the second half and held a 51% possession edge for the match.
Freshman forward Jahvar Stephenson provided the breakthrough Loyola needed in the 68th minute, burying his first collegiate goal off an assist from Jack Endacott to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Greyhounds kept pressing, forcing Hawks goalkeeper Cooper Jennings into three second-half saves to keep the scoreline intact.
Midfielders Richie Nichols and Tyler Flynn were active throughout the night, combining for six shots.
The Greyhounds (1-6-1) showed signs of their potential with a spirited second-half push, recording 13 total shots to just six for Saint Joseph's.
Loyola will return to Ridley on Saturday afternoon, as they will host Holy Cross in a Patriot League matchup.
