EASTON, Pa. –
Betzael Contreras converted a penalty kick for Loyola University Maryland women's soccer in the 82nd minute, and the Greyhounds posted a 1-1 tie against host Lafayette College on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League play.
The result moved Loyola into a tie for the NCAA Division I single-season record for ties with 10 so far this season.
Loyola is now tied for the all-time lead with Canisius, Pacific and Indiana State, which all had 10 ties in 2022, Stephen F. Austin (2025), and Nebraska, which logged its 10th of 2026 earlier this week.
The Greyhounds (3-2-10 overall, 3-2-3 Patriot League) earned the penalty after a foul was whistled on the Leopards (4-6-5, 3-3-1) in the box on a Loyola corner kick.
Contreras buried the chance with what was just Loyola's second shot of the game.
Lafayette grabbed a 1-0 lead in the match's 12th minute when Era Methoxha converted for a shot off assists by Heather Plowright and Abby Giordano. The score would hold until Contreras' equalizer with 7:49 remaining in the contest.
The Leopards had a 12-3 advantage in shots, putting eight shots on goal while all three of the Greyhounds' chances were on frame.
Hannah Goetzer made seven saves in goal for Loyola.
The Greyhounds return to Ridley Athletic Complex for their regular-season home finale on Halloween afternoon, hosting Army West Point at 1 o'clock.
