BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Loyola University Maryland men's basketball players earned All-Patriot League honors on Monday when the postseason teams were announced after voting by conference coaches.
Braeden Speed was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team, and
Emmett Adair earned third-team recognition, as well as inclusion on the Patriot League All-Rookie Team.
The duo are the top two players on the Greyhounds in both points and rebounds per game and are among the League leaders in both categories.
Speed leads the Greyhounds in points (16.9) and assists (3.6) per game this season and ranked eighth and seventh, respectively, in the two categories league-wide this year. He also is second on the team in rebounds per game (4.5) and is tied for 19th in the conference.
Adair finished the regular-season second on the team with 14.5 points per game and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per game, averages that are good for 12th and eighth in the Patriot League entering the Championships.
Their averages surged during the 18-game Patriot League schedule when Speed averaged 16.9 points and 4.9 rebounds, and Adair rose to 15.5 points and 5.7 rebounds.
Speed led the Greyhounds in scoring in 11 games this season with eight of those coming during Patriot League play. Adair, meanwhile, topped the team in scoring eight times, six of which came in the conference.
They combined for 16 games with 20 or more points, each totaling eight during the year. Adair scored 25 or more in a game five times during the season, a total that ties him for sixth among NCAA Division I freshmen this year.
Either Adair or Speed led the Greyhounds in scoring in their eight Patriot League victories this season.
Loyola will open play in the Patriot League Championships on Thursday, March 5, with a 7 p.m. game at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.
