BALTIMORE — Mim Suares-Jury tallied seven points, while Emma Talago tallied six points, as Loyola University Maryland overcame a early deficit for the 13-8 win over visiting Boston University on Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds (6-4, 2-1 Patriot League) erased an early two-goal deficit with a six-goal run in the first half. During the run, the Greyhounds scored a pair of player-down goals, as Suares-Jury recorded five of her seven points during the run, including assisting on the first four goals of the game.
Boston University (5-6, 1-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind two early goals from Tessa Geddes, but Loyola responded quickly. Ava Kane and Elisa Faklaris sparked the rally with back-to-back goals, and Talago capped a four-goal burst that gave the Greyhounds a 4-2 lead after one quarter.
Loyola continued to build separation in the second period, with Talago and Mim Suares-Jury leading the charge. Suares-Jury finished with two goals and five assists, orchestrating an offense that produced nine assists on 13 goals.
The Greyhounds pushed the lead to 9-4 late in the third quarter behind goals from Suares-Jury and Morgan Quade, and never allowed the Terriers closer than three the rest of the way.
Talago added two more goals in the fourth quarter, including a free-position score that extended the lead to 11-7, before Loyola sealed the game with late goals from Elisa Faklaris and Talago. With her second goal of the game, Faklaris eclipsed the 100 career points mark.
Morgan Quade finished with two goals and an assist, while Faklaris and Kane each added two goals for Loyola. Goalkeeper Makenzie Butler made six saves to earn the win.
Loyola controlled the draw control on the day, as they won 17 of 23 draws on the day, led by Mae Murphy who had 15 draws in the win.
The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League on Wednesday, as they travel to face American on Wednesday afternoon.
