BALTIMORE — Behind a dominant draw control effort and a balanced offensive attack, Loyola University Maryland rolled to an 18-11 victory over Colgate on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Loyola (10-5, 6-1) controlled the game from the outset, scoring five of the first six goals and never relinquishing the lead. The Greyhounds used a decisive 6-2 opening quarter, followed by a 5-2 third quarater to pace themselves past Colgate.
Lauren Perfetto led the way with four goals and an assist, while Mim Suares-Jury added two goals and three assists, including a pair of late strikes that helped Loyola pull away in the closing minutes. Ava Kane chipped in a hat trick, while Emma Talago, Morgan Quade, and Anna Kaplan each scored twice and had a assist each, as Loyola placed six players in the multi-point column.
The Greyhounds' control of possession proved pivotal. Loyola dominated the draw circle 25-6, with Mae Murphy accounting for a career-high 19 draw controls, giving the Greyhounds several extra possessions.
Colgate (5-7, 3-3) briefly threatened in the second quarter, trimming a four-goal deficit to 7-6. But Loyola responded with a late man-up goal from Talago and then seized command in the third period, outscoring the Raiders 5-2 to build a comfortable cushion.
In goal, Kennedy Buntrock earned the win with six saves over the first 30 minutes, while Makenzie Butler added four stops in the second half.
Ella Bishara led Colgate with three goals, and Aubrey McMahon added two goals and two assists, but the Raiders could not overcome Loyola's possession advantage and offensive depth.
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Greyhounds will travel to face Holy Cross next Saturday.
