WORCESTER, Mass. — Loyola University Maryland showed late fight as they cut their deficit down to four in the fourth quarter, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 14-9 loss to Holy Cross.
Morgan Quade led the Greyhounds with two goals, while six other Loyola players found the back of the net. Emma Talago, Elisa Faklaris, and Mim Suares-Jury each added a goal and an assist.
After falling behind 6-2 at the end of the first quarter, Loyola steadily worked to regain momentum. The Greyhounds trimmed the margin to 9-5 midway through the third quarter following a free-position goal from Talago, then continued to push in the fourth.
Back-to-back goals from Neicia Smith and Faklaris cut the deficit to 12-8 with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Greyhounds also closed the game with three of the final five goals, including Quade's second score with just over two minutes to play.
Mae Murphy controlled the draw circle for Loyola, finishing with a game-high 12 draw controls to go along with her two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Defensively, Loyola split time in goal between Kennedy Buntrock and Makenzie Butler, who combined for six saves.
Loyola will close out the regular season at home on Thursday, as they will host Bucknell at 6:00 PM.
