FAIRFAX, Va. — Loyola University Maryland and George Mason played to a scoreless draw Sunday night as the Greyhounds' defense and goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer kept the Patriots off the scoreboard at George Mason Stadium.
Loyola (0-1-3) earned its third draw of the season, holding George Mason (3-1-1) without a goal despite the Patriots generating 11 shots, including five on target. Goetzer turned aside all five shots she faced to preserve the clean sheet.
The Greyhounds had limited offensive opportunities but made their chances count. Betzael Contreras recorded both of Loyola's shots, putting one on target. Her first attempt in the seventh minute forced George Mason goalkeeper Libby Davy to make a save, while her second shot came in the 81st minute.
Goetzer was particularly important in the second half. She stopped shots from Molly Starner in the 49th minute, Kylie Beauregard in the 55th and Mia Arevalo-Delcid in the 67th as George Mason continued to pressure the Loyola defense.
Loyola also generated its best sustained pressure late in the match. The Greyhounds earned three corner kicks in the second half, including two within a three-minute span in the 73rd and 75th minutes, but could not find the breakthrough.
The Patriots controlled 55% of possession and held a 11-2 advantage in shots, but Loyola's defensive organization prevented George Mason from turning that pressure into a goal. The Greyhounds also finished with three corner kicks to the Patriots' two.
Goetzer earned her first shutout of the season and her sixth shutout of her Loyola career.
