BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland and Stony Brook battled to a scoreless draw Thursday night, with the Greyhounds earning a hard-fought result at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Loyola goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer made three saves to preserve the shutout, earning her second-straight shutout, including a stop on Stony Brook's Hedvig Helling in the final seconds. The Greyhounds also kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard despite Stony Brook putting nine shots toward goal.
Loyola generated several chances of its own and finished with eight shots, including three on target. Katie Ormerod forced a save from Stony Brook goalkeeper Jona Hennings in the 32nd minute, and Francesca Khachatourians tested Hennings twice in the second half.
The Greyhounds applied their best pressure late. Khachatourians had a shot blocked in the 82nd minute before Brigid McElderry and Renee Wanzor each put attempts wide. With less than a minute remaining, Khachatourians forced another save from Hennings.
Goetzer answered moments later, stopping Helling's attempt with six seconds remaining to secure the clean sheet.
Loyola also held an edge in corner kicks, 1-0, while Stony Brook had a 53% to 47% advantage in possession.
The draw moved Loyola to 0-1-4 on the season, while Stony Brook remained unbeaten at 3-0-2.
The Greyhounds return to action on Sunday, as they host FDU.
