BALTIMORE — Loyola University Maryland and Fairleigh Dickinson University played to a scoreless draw Sunday at Ridley Athletic Complex, with the Greyhounds earning a hard-fought result behind a strong defensive effort and six saves from goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer.
Loyola (0-1-5) kept FDU (1-2-3) off the scoreboard despite the Knights holding a 14-10 advantage in shots. FDU put six shots on target, while Loyola put five on target, but Goetzer repeatedly denied FDU opportunities to preserve the shutout.
The Greyhounds created several of their best chances in the opening half. Kaleigh Darby registered three shots, putting two on target, while Reagan Mallia and Ella Moss also generated opportunities for Loyola. FDU goalkeeper Rosemarie Leblanc made five saves to keep the match scoreless.
Loyola continued to threaten after halftime. Katie Ormerod tested Leblanc twice in the opening minutes of the second half, and Savannah Manset and Rylie Van Wingerden also put shots on frame. Taryn Buckley added another shot on target late in the match.
FDU increased its pressure as the second half progressed, but Goetzer stood firm. She made three saves in each half, including a stop on Candela Espana in the 82nd minute that helped Loyola maintain the shutout.
The Knights finished with 11 shots in the second half, but Loyola's defense prevented FDU from finding the decisive goal. The Greyhounds also earned two corner kicks and forced FDU into five total saves.
Neither team found the breakthrough during 90 minutes, leaving Loyola with its fifth draw of the season and another clean sheet at Ridley Athletic Complex.
Loyola returns to action on Thursday, as they will host Iowa State on Thursday evening.
