WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point scored Friday night's last four points to overcome a 23-21 fourth-set deficit and get past Loyola University Maryland in the teams' Patriot League opener, 25-22, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23.
Loyola led 22-20 after a block by
Elsie Afful and
Ava Nepkin, but a Michelle Parker kill got Army West Point within a point. The Black Knights gave up a sideout point, however, with a service error, handing the Greyhounds a 23-21 lead.
An attack error by loyola and a kill by Corrine Blackburn tied the set at 23-23, and Loyola called a timeout. Out the break, Janie Deapen and Corrine Blackburn had a block for the Black Knights and a Greyhounds' attack error closed the match for Army West Point..
Morgan Crawford led Loyola with 11 kills, while Nepkin had eight and
Sydnee Peters added seven.
Addie Huber led all players with 19 digs for Loyola, and
Madison Monahan tallied 21 assists for the Greyhounds.
