BALTIMORE –
Ava Nepkin kicked off an 8-0 Loyola University Maryland run in the fifth set with one of her team-high 17 kills on Saturday afternoon, and the Greyhounds secured a road victory at Morgan State University, 25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 22-25, 15-6.
Nepkin and
Morgan Crawford combined for 32 kills with Crawford's 15 giving both players season-high totals in the same match.
Sydnee Peters added a season-best seven kills.
Nepkin also gave the Greyhounds (1-3 overall) two of their first three points of the fifth set with kills, but a Loyola attack error tied the frame at 3-3.
Nepkin's third kill of the fifth put the Greyhounds in front, 4-3, a lead they would stretch to 11-3 with eight unanswered.
Gabi Verdicchio's kill made it 11-3, and the Bears would manage only three points from that point until the end.
Verdicchio and
Madison Monahan both added 23 assists, and
Addie Huber had a match- and season-best 23 digs.
Monahan and Nepkin both had double-doubles. Monahan notched the first of her career with 10 digs to supplement her assist total, and Nepkin added a season-high 16 digs.
Loyola had 14 aces in the match, led by Verdicchio's four.
The Greyhounds will finish their weekend on Sunday afternoon with a 2 o'clock home match against George Mason.
