BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland volleyball earned its second victory of the weekend on Sunday afternoon with its first sweep of 2026, taking down visiting Saint Peter's University, 25-13, 27-25, 25-18.
Morgan Crawford and
Ava Nepkin both had 12 kills for Loyola, and
Elsie Afful had a career-high nine. Crawford hit .462 with 12 kills on 26 swings without an error.
The Greyhounds (2-3 overall) dominated in the first set, holding the Peacocks to a -.094 hitting percentage with just six kills. Loyola combined for four kills in the set with Crawford in on three, and Afful and
Mariah Sanabia contributing to two each.
Saint Peter's, however, came back to lead for the majority of the second set. The Peacocks turned an 11-7 deficit into a 15-12 lead with an 8-1 run.
They then 24-23 with set point after an Addison Baglio kill, but after a timeout Nepkin had a sideout kill for the Greyhounds.
Baglio and Julia Whaley combined for a Saint Peter's block to give the Peacocks their second set-point of the frame, but Nepkin came back with another kill for Loyola, and
Addie Lowe put away a point to push set-point to Loyola's side. The Greyhounds ended the second after a Saint Peter's attack error.
Loyola again limited the Peacocks to a negative hitting percentage, -.098, in the third to finish the match.
Addie Huber had her second-straight match with 20 or more digs, finishing with a match-high 21.
Gabi Verdicchio led Loyola with 22 assists, and
Madison Monahan added 19.
Loyola will open the Battle of the Beltways on Friday, September 11, with a 6 p.m. match against George Washington in Reitz Arena.
