Men's Tennis Edges Morgan State In Nail-biter

March 13, 2004

BALTIMORE, MD - With his No. 7 singles match tied at 1-1, the deciding set tied at 3-3, and the team score set at three points apiece, Loyola men's tennis senior captain Jon Falcichio went on to win the next three games to clinch his match and win the final point of the day to seal a 4-3 Greyhound victory over Morgan State on Friday afternoon at the Butler Courts.

Before Falcichio's exciting win, a win that was witnessed by all of the match's contestants and coaches because it was the last match of the day to finish and the team match's final result hinged upon the outcome of this No. 7 singles duel, Loyola received straight-set wins from John Curren and Bill Horne as well as two doubles wins.

Nick Bowers and Dan Schiemel combined to eek out a 9-7 win at No. 1 doubles while Adam Wessinger and Horne rolled to an 8-1 triumph in their No. 3 doubles match to snare the doubles point.

Curren then won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Horne won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to set the stage for Falcichio's magnificent clutch performance.

Loyola improves to 6-2 with the win as the Greyhounds will continue with their non-conference schedule for two weeks before getting in to the thick of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action in April.
