Men's Tennis Drops 4-3 Heartbreaker To LaSalle

BALTIMORE, MD - Loyola's men's tennis team split the singles competition with LaSalle, but got swept in the doubles competition as the Explorers edged the Greyhounds to earn a 4-3 non-conference win at the Butler Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Greyhound No. 2 singles player Dan Schiemel (6-4, 6-2) and No. 5 singles player John Curren rolled to straight-set wins (6-2, 7-5) as No. 4-man Adam Wessinger won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, but Loyola's No. 1, 3, and 6 men -- Nick Bowers, Jon Falcichio, and Bill Horne, respectively -- all fell in heartbreaking three-set melees, leading to the Greyhounds' demise.

After falling 6-1 in Set One, Bowers came back to win Set Two 6-4, only to lose a tight final set (6-4) and the match, 2-1.

Horne won Set One 6-2, but dropped both Sets Two and Three by a score of 6-4 and the match 2-1.

Falcichio, in the final and closest match of the day, won Set One 7-5, but lost Sets Two and Three in painful fasion as the senior co-captain fell 7-6, 7-6 to lose 2-1.

With the loss, Loyola's record falls to 6-5 on the year.
