Women's Crew Claims MAAC Championship

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola women's crew team captured the 2004 MAAC Championship title in dramatic fashion with a win in the Varsity 8, the final race of the afternoon. The Greyhounds edge out Marist with 149 team points while the men place fourth overall.

Loyola used wins in the Novice Lightweight 4, Novice 4, Varsity Lightweight 4, Varsity 8 and the Women's Pair to claim their title and give Al Ramirez Coach of the Year accolades.

The Greyhounds were able to defeat Marist College, which placed second in the final Varsity 8 race and second overall with 139.5 points. Fairfield finished third with 60 points while Canisius and Iona rounded out the Top-5.

On the men's side, the Greyhounds earned 25.5 points with 12 points in the Novice 8, six points in the Varsity Pair and four points in the Varsity 4. Marist took home its seventh league title with a total of 150 points. Iona was the runner-up with 59 points while Fairfield finished in third place with 31 points.
