Sept. 1, 2004
Baltimore, Md. - Head Coach Bill Dirrigl has announced a tentative men's lacrosse schedule for 2005. The Greyhounds join a tough Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) while keeping local rivals Johns Hopkins, Towson and UMBC on the regular season slate. "We're very happy to join a conference with both athletic success and academic integrity," says Dirrigl. "Being part of the ECAC guarantees us an extremely competitive schedule and allows us to play the best teams in the nation." For the second consecutive season, Loyola opens with Towson. The Greyhounds defeated the Tigers at Johnny Unitas Stadium to start the 2004 campaign and host the Baltimore rival at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field on Saturday, February 26. The Greyhounds quickly move to ECAC play with an early March contest at Penn State. Other conference games include home matches against St. John's (March 19), UMass (March 26) and Hobart (April 30). The Greyhounds travel to Rutgers (April 2) and Georgetown (April 16) to complete the ECAC portion of the schedule. Highlighting the non-conference schedule is an April 9 game versus defending national champion Syracuse. The Greyhounds also host UMBC and Wagner while playing away games at Duke and Pennsylvania. The regular season closes at Johns Hopkins on Saturday, May 7.
