Men's Tennis Takes Season Opener At Coppin

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's tennis team officially opened the 2004-05 season on Thursday afternoon with a 4-3 win at Coppin State University. The Greyhounds, led by sophomore John Curran and freshman Scott Gannon, won the doubles point and took four through six singles in straight sets en route to the victory.

Curren and Gannon teamed up in No. 3 doubles to clinch the point with an 8-1 victory. The point was made possible by the senior duo Nick Bowers and Dan Schiemel, who won the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3.

In singles competition, Trevor McDonough dropped a tough three set match to Parker Scott, falling 3-6, 7-6 (12), 7-6 (7). The Greyhounds bounced back with Curren winning No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0; Gannon taking No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0; and freshman Ben Epstein completing the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.

Loyola, now 1-0 on the season, heads to Lawrenceville, N.J. for this weekend's ECAC Tournament.
