Delaware Deals Loyola First Loss Of Season

Newark, Del. - Loyola's women's tennis team dropped the doubles point and five of six singles matches in falling to Delaware by a score of 6-1 for the Greyhounds' first loss of the season on Wednesday afternoon.

Greyhound senior Claire Najour came up with Loyola's only win of the day as she clinched her No. 5 singles match in an exciting comeback, 4-6, 7-6 (5), (7).

The No. 2 doubles team of Meaghan McKenna and Christi Lazar almost came up with another win for Loyola, but eventually succumbed to Alexis Dragonette and Jamie DeGraffenreid, 9-7.

Other results on the afternoon saw Amy Nitch falling at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2, Jessica Liberatore falling at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0, McKenna falling at No. 3, 6-0, 6-2, Lazar falling at No. 4, 6-0, 6-3, and Stefanie Clay falling at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0.

Nitch and Liberatore lost their No. 1 doubles match 8-1 while Najour and Clay were defeated 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.

Loyola falls to 1-1 on the season with the loss.

The Greyhounds return to action Friday, March 18th at 3 p.m. when they will host Quinnipiac. The match has been moved from Loyola's Butler Courts and will now be played at Towson University's outdoor courts.
