Tennis Falls At Niagara

Niagara, N.Y. - Loyola's men's and women's tennis teams dropped their final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches of the season on Saturday afternoon at Niagara. The women fall 4-3 while the men drop a 5-2 decision to the Purple Eagles.

In a highly contested women's match, Niagara won No. 1 doubles and Loyola won the third doubles match, leaving the doubles point up to a No. 2 match that was gutted out by the Purple Eagles. Meagan McKenna and Christi Lazar took the match to limit before falling 9-7.

The Greyhounds earned points, however, with solid performances in singles' competition. McKenna won No. 3 singles by a 6-2, 6-2 score while Claire Najour took No. 5 singles 6-4, 7-5. Stefanie Clay gave the `Hounds a split in singles competition, winning No. 6 with scores of 6-1, 6-0.

On the men's side, Niagara improved to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in the MAAC with the home win over the Greyhounds. Trevor McDonough played at No. 1 singles for Loyola while Nick Bowers and Dan Scheimel competed at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively.

The men's team falls to 10-9 on the season while the women fall to 8-7 win their loss. Both teams stay in Buffalo to play IPFW this Sunday at 11 a.m.
