Women's Tennis Comes Up Short At Towson

Towson, Md. - Towson claimed a pivotal doubles point and held on to defeat Loyola's women's tennis on Tuesday afternoon in Towson, Md. The Greyhounds, who complete the regular season with a 9-8 overall record, fall 5-2 in match much closer than its score.

Claire Najour and Stefanie Clay won at No. 3 doubles but Towson won the first and second doubles matches by 8-6, 8-5 scores to take an early one-point edge.

Amy Nitch won a grueling match at No. 1 singles that lasted two and a half hours. Nitch won the first set 7-5, fell in the second set 7-5 and won the super tiebreaker 10-4. Najour followed her doubles win with a straight set victory at No. 4 singles to give Loyola it second point. Clay fell in a highly contested three-set game at No. 6.

The Greyhounds now head to the MAAC Championships at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Loyola, the No. 4 seed in this year's tournament, plays Fairfield at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 22.
