Washington, D.C. - Nick Bowers, Dan Schiemel and Ben Epstein all won their singles matches in straight sets to lead Loyola past Catholic on Wednesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Greyhounds took five singles matches and won the doubles point to win 6-1 and improve to 9-5 on the year.

Teaming up to win at No. 1 doubles, Bowers and Trevor McDonough won 8-4 while Schiemel and Epstein won by the same score at No. 2 to take the doubles point. The third doubles match, also won by Loyola, saw Scott Gannon and Chad Morrow win 8-5.

McDonough opened singles play with a comeback win at No. 1. After falling 3-6 in the first set, he battled back to earn 6-2, 6-1 victories in sets two and three. Bowers won at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2) and Schiemel won at No. 3 (63, 6-0).

The tightest match of the day came in No. 4 singles play when Gannon earned a 7-5, 5-7 (8) victory over Catholic's Emmett Donnelly. Loyola's Epstein closed the scoring with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles to improve his singles record to 14-3 overall.

The Greyhounds have a jam-packed weekend of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tennis with Manhattan, Fairfield and St. Peter's coming to Loyola. The `Hounds play Manhattan on Friday at 3 p.m.
