Greyhounds Split With Fairfield

Baltimore, Md. - Loyola split its tennis matches with Fairfield on Saturday afternoon at the Butler Courts. The women won 6-1 while the men fell 7-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) competition.

After dropping the doubles point (two matches to one), the women swept the singles competition to earn six points in the victory. Amy Nitch won at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 while Jessica Liberatore (No. 2), Meaghan McKenna (No. 3), Christi Lazar (No. 4), Claire Najour (No. 5) and Stefanie Clay (No. 6) won their matches in straight sets.

With the win the women improve to 7-4 overall.

On the men's side, Kevin Nyarany and Steve Kouri edged out Trevor McDonough and Nick Bowers at No. 1 doubles, winning 9-7 and taking the doubles point. McDonough then dropped a heartbreaking three-set match at No. 1 singles while John Curran fell in the 10th tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.

The men are now 9-7 overall. Both the men and women host MAAC foe Saint Peter's on Sunday at the Butler Courts. Both matches are set to begin at 11 a.m.
