Michael Fretwell Named ECAC Defensive Player Of The Week

May. 3, 2005

Baltimore, Md. - Goalie Michael Fretwell was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting a career-high 21 saves in Loyola's 15-11 win over Hobart last Saturday. Fretwell has started all 12 games for the Greyhounds this season and is ranked among the nation's best in both goals against average and save percentage.

Fretwell led the Greyhounds to victory in the conference finale with nine saves in the second quarter and six saves in the fourth. He also picked up four groundballs and is currently second on the team with 44 this season.

Solid in the cage all season long, Fretwell ranks eighth in the country in save percentage (.601) and 16th in goals against average (8.05). He has 143 saves this season and 256 for his career.

Fretwell becomes the second Loyola player to earn ECAC Player of the Week honors this year. Freshman Shane Koppens was named Rookie of the Week back on March 28.
