Tennis Concludes Competition At Hampton Roads Collegiate

Newport News, Va. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams concluded action at the Hampton Roads Collegiate in Newport News, Va. with action in the championship quarterfinals and consolation singles' bracket on Saturday evening.

Freshman Caitlyn Day, who on Friday played her way into the Flight B quarterfinals, fell to Barbara Costa in the quarters. Day also played in the Flight B Doubles quarterfinals with teammate Stephanie Dunn. The tandem fell 8-1, as did Loyola's men's freshmen duo of Tim Koch and Matt Rodgers in their respective quarterfinal match.

In consolation play on Saturday, freshman Chris Langley cruised to championship appearance in Flight D play. Both Langley and Rodgers competed in the bracket and both won their first round match to advance to the quarters. In the quarterfinals, however, Rodgers fell 8-2, while Langley defeated Antenton Hinton, 8-3. Langley also won his semifinal match by the same 8-3 score and faced Andrew Blumberg in the final. Blumberg won the title match superset, 8-3.

Freshman Tim Koch fell in the Flight C consolation bracket, dropping a tough 9-7 decision to Jay Fridman, while junior Ben Epstein and sophomore Sean Wall dropped their Flight B matches.

On the women's side, Dunn reached the Flight C final with 8-6 wins over Amy Sheetz and Nelly Edwards in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively. The fell in by the same 8-6 score in the title match.

In the Flight B consolation bracket, freshman Kerri Swan advanced to the semifinals with an 8-3 win in the quarters. Swan fell 8-2 in the semifinal match, while freshman Lauren Cassle fell 8-3 in her consolation quarterfinal.

Both the men and women are done with competition this fall and resume dual-match play in February. The Greyhounds return to action with a MAAC match at Niagara on Feb. 25.
