Tennis Falls To Hofstra

Towson, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's tennis teams dropped matches to Hofstra on Thursday afternoon. The women, playing on the Butler Courts, were edged out 4-3 while the men suffered a 6-1 defeat at Towson.

The women won the doubles' point to take an early 1-0 advantage on the Pride. Amy Nitch and Jessica Liberatore claimed an 8-5 victory at No. 1 while Meaghan McKenna and Laura Cuti earned an 8-4 win at No. 3.

Senior Stefanie Clay picked up a point at No. 4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4 while sophomore Mallory Tarca also won in straight sets, taking the No. 5 singles' match 6-4, 6-1.

On the men's side, sophomore Scott Gannon won the No. 2 singles match in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6. Gannon, who teamed up with Ben Epstein in No. 1 doubles, played a tough No. 1 match, but fell 8-6.

The women are now 6-3 overall while the men are 6-6 this season. Both squads begin MAAC play this Saturday, hosting Siena at 10 a.m.
