Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams host Johns Hopkins and VMI this Friday and Saturday in the Thomas Murphy Invitational. The Greyhounds, who swam their first five meets away from home, officially open their home slate with competition commencing at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The `Hounds, who swam well at Seton Hall last weekend, have already registered a number of Top 5 times this season, and have set a pair of school records. Leading the way for the women has been freshman Caitlin Cassidy, who has set and reset the Loyola record in the 100 Fly this year.
Cassidy is also part of Loyola's record-setting 400 Medley Relay team, which swam a 4:02.24 this season. Sophomore Melissa White, freshman Kim Krzaczek and sophomore Megan Royer teamed up to set the relay record.
On the men's side, the Greyhounds are coming off wins over Georgetown and Lafayette and are 6-2 overall. A number of Top 5 times have been established along the way with freshman Ozzy Torres' time of 52.09 in the 100 Fly, freshman Tim Rowe's 1:58.53 in the 200 Fly, freshman Sam McQuaid's 53.59 in the 100 Back, and freshman Matthew Fralinger's 59.85 in the 100 Breast.
This weekend's meet is a re-match of last year's Thomas Murphy Invitational, where the Greyhounds defeated VMI, while Johns Hopkins captured first on both the men's and women's sides. Friday's competition will begin with the 400 Medley Relays, while on Saturday, the action begins at 10 a.m. with the 200 Free Relays.
