Men's Tennis Drops Marathon Match With George Mason

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 marathon to George Mason on Thursday afternoon. With four of the six singles matches going three sets, the Greyhounds and Patriots played a very even three-hour match at the Butler Courts.

The Patriots won the doubles' point to take an early 1-0 lead, and after a hard-fought three set defeat at No. 1 singles for junior Scott Gannon (who fell 7-5 in the third set), freshman Matt McDaniel got the `Hounds a point with a thrilling three-set victory at No. 2.

McDaniel overcame a 5-2 third-set deficit to with 7-5 and take the point for Loyola. The Greyhounds evened the match with junior Rob Palliser's 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Nail-biting three-set Loyola defeats at Nos. 4 and 5, however, clinched the match for George Mason. Freshman Tim Koch fell 6-4 in his third set, while freshman Peter Edgar fell 7-5 in his third set. Junior Chad Morrow also dropped a heartbreaker, falling 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

The Greyhounds are idle for spring break and return to the courts on Tuesday, March 13 when they host Morgan State at the Butler Courts.
