West Windsor, N.J. - The Loyola men's and women's crew teams each placed second at the MAAC Championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. on Sunday afternoon. The Loyola women, which fell two points shy of MAAC title, compiled 171 points, while the men scored 172 in their runner-up performance.
The women raced out to an early lead by winning the first event of the day - the Novice 8. The Greyhounds crossed the finish line in 7:55.2, taking the event by open water. The Loyola women also won the 2V8, crossing the finish line in 7:41.6. In all, the women won three races - the third coming in Event 8 - the Novice 4. Loyola's N4 boat edged out Fairfield in 8:28.69.
The men also had measurable success - winning the Novice 8 race in 6:43.7. The men registered six runner-up finishes in their second-place performance with runner-up showings in the Varsity 8, the Men's Pair, the Novice 4, the JV4, the 2V8 and the Varsity 4.
Marist won both championships while Fairfield placed third on the men's side and Iona placed third on the women's side.
