Fairfield, Conn. - The Loyola College men's and women's tennis teams dropped MAAC matches at Fairfield on Saturday. The Greyhound women suffered a 4-3 heartbreaker, while the men fell 7-0 in their second conference road match in as many days.

The women's competition lasted six hours with the Greyhounds taking Fairfield to the limit. Stephanie Dunn and Caitlyn Day won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, but an 8-5 loss and No. 1 and an 8-1 loss at No. 3 gave the Stags the early lead.

Freshman Joy Johnson claimed Loyola's first point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. Dunn followed with a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 4. Sophomore Lauren Cassle gave Loyola its third point with a three-set win at No. 6, but straight sets defeats at No. 1 (Day) and No. 2 (Kerri Swan) brought the match down to No. 5 singles.

Loyola senior co-captain Meaghan McKenna played No. 5 singles, dropping the first set 7-5, winning the second 6-3 before the deciding 6-2 third match.

The men's team wasn't able to register a point, despite a win at No. 1 doubles. Seniors Scott Gannon and Doug Alban combined for an 8-7 win to start the day, but the Stags won the points with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, the Greyhounds fell in straight sets. Gannon dropped the first, Matt McDaniel played at No. 2, Tim Koch played at No. 3, Alban competed at No. 4, while freshmen Dan D'Agostino and Jamie Russo played Nos. 5 and 6 singles respectively.

The women are now 8-7 overall, while men are 9-7 this season. Both teams continue their road trip at St. Peter's College on Sunday afternoon.
