Golf Earns Sixth-Place Finish at Jackrabbit Invitational

PRIMM, Nev. - Loyola players combined to go just 2-over Tuesday afternoon outside of Las Vegas, finishing in sixth place at the Jackrabbit Invitational at Primm Valley Golf Club.

A closing-round 290, the fourth-lowest score of the day, gave Loyola a 72-hole score of 900 and moved the Greyhounds one spot the leaderboard. Their score was the fourth-best of the day and held off host South Dakota State. The Jackrabbit finished just one stroke away with a 37-over 901.

Nebraska took the title by going 4-under on the week (860), blowing by the competition with a 9-under total after three rounds. Arkansas State finished in second place, 15 strokes away from the Cornhuskers.

While Alex Redfearn had the highest finish for the Greyhounds with a T15, Jay Mulieri had the best day.

Mulieri shot up the leaderboard, going from a tie for 46th to a tie for 22nd after firing a 2-under 70. Mulieri wracked up five birdies and had a stretch of 14 bogey-free holes after picking up a four on hole No. 9 of Primm Valley's Desert Course. For the event, Mulieri went 75-80-70 (225) and ended at 9-over.

Freshman Jason Burton moved up as well after shooting an even 72. A 15-over 231 tied Burton for 48th.

Redfearn finished tied for 15th at 7-over, and totaled 11 birdies to lead the `Hounds. He matched his first round score of 74 Tuesday, going 74-75-74 (223) on the week.

Ryan McCarthy fell from a tie for 20th to a tie for 37th after going 6-over Tuesday. McCarthy struggled on the back nine with three bogeys and a double. He finished with a 13-over 229 after opening up with a 75 and a 76.

Patrick McCormick recovered from a disastrous first day with a 74 in the final round. The sophomore managed to make up ground, finishing 24-over (240) and moving from T81 to a solo 75th place.
