Men's Varsity Four Competes At IRA Championships

CAMDEN, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland's Varsity Four boat shaved over 16 seconds off its morning heat time in the repechages round and advanced to Saturday's third final at the 108th edition of the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on the Cooper River.

The boat of Nick Miano (stroke), Ryan Walsh (3), Marc Hesse (2), Maciej Owsianny (bow) and Thomas Quinn (coxswain) finished fifth in its repechage race with a time of 6:50.005.

The Greyhounds outpaced Navy's boat in the repechage, edging the Midshipmen by 0.916.

Loyola will compete in the event's third final for 13th place on Saturday morning.

Earlier in the day, the Greyhounds took sixth in a heat of the race, finishing in 7:06.338.

Loyola's women open their portion of the competition on Friday. The Greyhounds' Lightweight 4 boat will compete in the day's second heat at 8:15 a.m. versus MIT, Princeton and Wisconsin.
