Game Info

  • The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team returns from Thanksgiving break to take on Howard University at 2 p.m. at Reitz Arena, in the second game of a doubleheader that features the men's team battling Florida Gulf Coast at noon.
  • The game is the second of three-straight at home for Loyola.
  • Loyola is 1-1 at Reitz this season, winning its home-opener over Navy, 42-38, on Nov. 13, and dropping a 60-56 decision to UMBC its last time out.
  • The Greyhounds went 9-6 at home last season, including 2-4 in non-conference home games.
  • Under Head Coach Joe Logan, the Greyhounds have built a 47-33 record at Reitz Arena, going 13-12 against non-conference opponents.

Scouting the Bison

  • The Lady Bison enter Sunday's match-up with a 1-3 overall record and are coming off a 73-50 loss at the hands of No. 18 Ohio State on Nov. 22.
  • Howard has two losses to top-25 teams, including dropping an 82-28 game to No. 1 Baylor in their season-opener.
  • Tamoria Holmes leads Howard on the offensive end, averaging 16.3 points per game.
  • Preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Saadia Doyle, is second of the team with 14.5 points per game to go with 8.0 rebounds.
  • The Lady Bison were selected to finish second in the MEAC this season, after finishing the 2010-11 campaign 16-18 overall and 9-7 in the conference.

The Series

  • This marks the fifth meeting between the Greyhounds and the Lady Bison, with each team winning two games apiece
  • The two teams met last year, with Loyola dropping a 44-36 decision at Howard.

The Last Time They Met

  • The Greyhounds shot just 23.4-percent from the field in a 44-36 loss at Howard.
  • Katie Sheahin and Nicole Krusen had nine points each to Pace Loyola, while Saadia Doyle had 19 points to lead all scorers for the Lady Bison.
  • Loyola rallied late in the contest, trailing by only four with 2:31 remaining. The Bison closed out the contest by making clutch free throws.

Loyola vs. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)

  • Loyola is 15-18 all-time against the MEAC, with 11 of the losses coming against Morgan State prior to the 1985-86 season.
  • The Greyhounds are 7-3 vs. Coppin State, 2-2 vs. Howard, 4-2 vs. UMES and 2-11 vs. Morgan State.
  • Last year's meeting with Howard was Loyola's first game against a MEAC team since 2005. That match-up was also with Howard and was an 83-65 win for the Greyhounds at Reitz Arena.
  • Loyola is 8-9 at home vs. MEAC opponents and 7-4 against teams not named Morgan State.

Fast Starts

  • Over the last two games, the Greyhounds have jumped out to early seven-point leads on Pittsburgh and UMBC.
  • Loyola took an 11-4 lead against UMBC, shooting 4-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line over the first five minutes.
  • Against Pitt, the Greyhounds went on a 7-0 run over the first three minutes, converting on each of their first three shots from the field.


Marshall Earns MAAC Rookie of the Week Honors

  • Freshman Kara Marshall was named MAAC Rookie of the Week for the week ending Nov. 20 after scoring 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting at Pittsburgh.
  • It was the first honor of Marshall's career and the first for a Greyhound this season.


Stealing the Show

  • Katie Sheahin had a breakout season in 2010-11, finishing the year ranked second in the NCAA in steals per game (3.5) and setting the single-season record at Loyola for steals in a season (118).
  • Sheahin has picked up this season right where she left off, registering 20 steals throught the first four games of the season (5.0 per game).
  • The Brookeville, Md., native set a career high with eight steals at Pittsburgh. It was the fifth time in her career that Sheahin had seven-plus steals in a game. She ranks first in Loyola history, averaging 3.1 steals per game and is fifth on the all-time career steals list with 189.

Last Time Out

  • Loyola dropped a 60-56 decision at home to reigning America East champion and Preseason America East favorite UMBC on Nov. 22.
  • Miriam McKenzie led the Greyhounds with her 10th career double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
  • Loyola trailed by eight points with one minute left, but cut the deficit to three with 16 seconds left following a and-one by Katie Sheahin.
  • The Retrievers closed out the game by hitting 3-of-4 from the free throw line.


On the Defensive End

  • The Greyhounds held UMBC to 17.4-percent shooting from the field in the second half, the lowest shooting percentage for a team since holding Manhattan to 11.8-percent shooting in the second half of a game on Feb. 2, 2011.
  • Loyola has held two teams (Navy and UMBC) to below 32-percent shooting from the floor.
