2013 Loyola Men's Lacrosse Schedule

BALTIMORE - The defending NCAA champion Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team will open its season with a pair of road games before commencing its 2013 home schedule on Saturday, February 23, with a rematch of the national title game against Maryland, Head Coach Charley Toomey announced today.

"This is the most aggressive schedule that we've put together here at Loyola," Toomey said. "I think it's great that we have Maryland to open our home schedule, and we have a very difficult group of non-conference games that will test us and prepare us for an always challenging ECAC schedule."

After a trio of exhibition games - January 27 against the United State National Team at the Champion Challenge in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., February 2 at North Carolina and February 9 at home versus Harvard - the Greyhounds will kick off the regular-season at Delaware on Saturday, February 16, before taking on Towson three days later just up the road on Tuesday, February 19.

Loyola will play the first of three-straight home games when the Terrapins visit Ridley Athletic Complex for the first time. Last year, the Greyhounds won their first NCAA Division I Championship in any sport by topping Maryland, 9-3, on Memorial Day at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

The 2013 rematch will mark the first regular-season game between the two since Loyola defeated the Terrapins, 10-8, on March 19, 1989. Prior to that, the teams had not played since the 1959 season.

After the game against Maryland, Loyola will again play three days later, welcoming UMBC to Ridley on Tuesday, February 26. The Greyhounds will close their homestand on Saturday, March 2, when they open ECAC Lacrosse League action against Bellarmine.

Five-straight road games in four states and the District of Columbia will then test the team, starting with a Friday, March 8, contest at Duke. The Greyhounds will then meet ECAC foe Air Force on Saturday, March 16, at Sports Authority Field in Denver.

A final midweek game will carry the Greyhounds to the Nation's Capital on Wednesday, March 20, to face Georgetown, before they venture west for two ECAC games, Saturday, March 23, at Michigan, and Saturday, March 30, at Ohio State.

Loyola returns to Ridley Athletic Complex on Saturday, April 6, for a game against Fairfield, before closing out its home regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 13, against Denver.

The Greyhounds finish their regular-season slate on the road with a Saturday, April 20, contest against Hobart and then a Saturday, April 27, date at Johns Hopkins.

The ECAC will host its third-annual championships the first week of May with Hobart playing host to the top four teams in Geneva, N.Y.

Loyola's 2013 schedule is subject to change, and times will be released at a later date.
