Two Boats Advanced To The Finals At The Kerr Cup

Two men's boats advanced to the final rounds, as Loyola University Maryland rowing competed at the Kerr Cup on the Cooper River.

The men's pair of Michael Blume and Juan Cadavid finished the first heat in second place, behind the University of Philadelphia. In the final round, the Greyhounds finished in fourth, behind Richmond, Drexel, and Villanova. The pair came in with a time of 7:11.50.

"The pair had a fine heat," said head coach Al Ramirez. " They steered into the current with rough water, but I think their positive attitudes made the race much more successful and enjoyable."

The men's varsity four advanced to the final round, after the first heat landed the boat in second, with a time of 6:26.30. Bryan Carney, Walter Horan, Craig Spicer, Joe Wawrzynski and cox Patrick Flynn competed in the final race with boats from Penn State, University of Philadelphia, Drexel, and St. Joes. The quad finished fifth, crossing the finish line at 6:39.40.

"The men showed good power and stroke length in the first heat," Ramirez said.

The men's lightweight boat finished fourth, ahead of NYU and Stony Brook despite having novice rowers in the boat.

Kimberly Seckler, Shannon Connelly, Kathleen Sweeney, Eleni Papadatos, and cox Lindsay Superczynski were unable to advance to the finals, turning in a fifth place finish with a time of 7:32.00.

Up next, the Greyhounds travel to West Windsor, N.J., for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, April 27.
