Track and Field Finishes Strong At The Maryland Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland women's track and field team finished sixth in a strong competitive showing at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday.

The host Terrapins came away with the meet title, totaling 264.5 team points. Neighboring Johns Hopkins finished second with 137 points, while Mount St. Mary's (90), District of Columbia (79), and Essex Community College (46) rounded out the top five. The Greyhounds tabbed 30 points on the day, followed by St. Thomas Aquinas (17.5), George Washington (8), American (5) and Richard Bland (5).

Courtney Willeford was the top Greyhound finisher, contributing six individual points after a third-place finish in the javelin. The senior posted a mark of 32.84m.

Fellow field competitors Kelly Hilbert and Emma Mascoli took sixth and seventh, respectively, in the triple jump. Hilbert jumped 9.64m, while Mascoli followed close behind in 9.55m. Alessandra Piscitelli was the final field competitor to add points to the team total, finishing seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 32.40m.

On the track, hurdlers Jacqueline Porter and Eilis McGovern took home seventh and eighth place in the 400m hurdles. Teammate Sarah Askine finished ninth in the 1,500m race, posting a time of 4.58:73. The freshman distance runner was the final individual competitor to contribute points to the team's efforts.

The 4x100m relay team of Rebekah Rogerson, Isabela Ugarte, Marissa Buccellato and Eileen Pastyrnak finished third, tallying six points with a time of 52.00 seconds.

Charlotte Criqui, Lisa Potter, Claire Scavone and Jacqueline Porter took fifth, while teammates Marissa Buccellato, Jessa Laspesa, Sarah Askine and Brianna Nelson took sixth in the 4x400m relay. The squads added seven combined points, to total 30 team points.

The Greyhounds return to action on May 4 and 5, traveling to Williamsburg, Va., for the Colonial Relays.
