Crews Advance To Day Two Of Knect Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's crew teams turned in strong performances at the highly competitive Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., on Saturday.

The men's pair of Juan Cadavid and Michael Blume started the day's events off with a spark, qualifying for the semifinals with a time of 7:55.12. The duo went on to take fourth in the second flight of the semis, finishing ahead of Lafayette College and the University of Maryland.

Coxswain Patrick Flynn, Craig Spicer, Joe Wawrzynski, Filip Zigic and Bryan Carney advanced to the finals, clocking a varsity four time of 7:06.42. The crew will compete on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, where they will face another strong field that features teams from Boston College, George Mason, Villanova, Drexel and Colgate.

Later in the afternoon the men's lightweight four took first in the third heat of the race, clocking a time of 7:09.30. Walter Horan, Robert Moore, Theodore Fortier and Craig MacAdams will return to action on Sunday to race in the finals at 8 a.m.

The men's and women's varsity eight both took sixth in their respective heats on Saturday, clocking times of 7:50.28 and 6:40.03, respectively.
