FAIRFAX, Va. - In the second-straight day of competition, the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's crew teams put together yet again a number of top-three finishes, including first in the men's pair, Sunday afternoon at the Occoquan Sprints.

With Robert Moore at bow and Craig Spicer at stroke, the duo finished first in the first of two pairs heats. Moore and Spicer crossed the finish line in 8:45.11, ahead of North Carolina and Carnegie Mellon.

Later in the afternoon, the men's novice four boat of Victor Santiago, Joseph Yacobucci, David Dukenik, Ryan Brown and cox Rachel Yuhas took second in 7:51.87, while the varsity four (Moore, Cooper Manning, Spicer, Christopher Keyloun and cox Patrick Flynn) placed third with a final race time of 8:00.38.

The men's novice eight crew (Santiago, Yaccubuci, Brown, Ryan Scott, Dukenik, Austin Drexel, Keyloun, Liam Marmo and Yuhas) put together a strong performance, finishing ahead of George Mason, VCU, Maryland and James Madison. Loyola's boat took second in 6:57.18, nearly eight seconds behind UNC who won the race in 6:49.48.

Coxswain Serena Rivera, stroke Lauren Howe, Sarah Doyle, Natasha Murray, Emily Mansour, Kristin Wawrzynski, Allison Langley, Keenan Gibbons and Nona Sharp took third in the first heat of the women's novice eight race. The time of 9:25.63 qualified the Greyhounds for the final race, where the rookie rowers placed sixth and crossed the finish line in 8:24.03.

Loyola returns to action on Saturday, April 11, at Mercer Lake for the Knecht Cup in West Windsor, New Jersey.
