BALTIMORE – Four seniors – Jack Carrigan, Ryan Fournier, Zack Sirico and Brian Sherlock – have been named team captains for the 2017 Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team, Head Coach Charley Toomey announced today.
The quartet represent all four units of the Greyhounds' team: attack (Sirico), midfield (Sherlock), defense (Carrigan) and rope unit (Fournier). Sherlock will be the first three-time team captain during Loyola's recorded history, and Carrigan will serve for the second-straight season.
"We are excited about these young men leading our program," Toomey said. "They have had outstanding careers at Loyola, and we feel great about them leading the team into the 2017 season."
Carrigan has been a two-year starter on close defense for the Greyhounds, and he finished the 2016 season with 37 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. A Long Island native, Carrigan missed three games early in the season due to injury, but he led Loyola close defenders in ground balls and was second in caused turnovers. 
Fournier has been one of the best two-way long-stick midfielders in the game during his Loyola career and has posted 139 ground balls, 39 caused turnovers, 15 goals and nine assists during his tenure on the field. Last season, the Ottawa, Ontario, native had 49 ground balls to go with career-highs of seven goals and 16 caused turnovers as a junior last year.
Sirico will start on attack for the Greyhounds for the third year in a row, and he enters the 2017 season with 30 goals and 32 assists. The resident of Long Island posted three hat tricks a year ago and tallied 19 goals along with 14 assists. One of his hat tricks came in the NCAA Quarterfinals against Towson University when he matched his career-best with three goals.
Sherlock will serve as a captain the third year in a row and make it three Long Islanders who will serve in the role this year. A two-time USILA All-American, Sherlock has earned All-Patriot League First Team honors in each of his three seasons at Loyola. He scored 24 goals and had 13 assists last year, bringing his career total to 72 and 42.
