Andre Walker was named the Patriot League The Rock Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 18.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game in a pair of Greyhounds victories.
Walker tallied a season-high 24 points last Wednesday with his final two being the deciding margin. Loyola trailed Stony Brook University, 70-69, with seven seconds to go on the Seawolves home floor.
The junior guard took an inbounds pass, drove the length of the floor and had his layup fall with five-tenths of a second remaining to lift the Greyhounds to a 71-70 victory. His heroics landed him on ESPN SportsCenter's Top Plays, as well.
Walker went 7 of 14 from the field against the Seawolves and a season-best 4 of 7 from 3-point range. He also made all six of his free throws and had five assists and a steal in 36 minutes of action.
On Saturday against Mount St. Mary's University, Walker did not get his shot to fall – he was just 1 of 10 from the field – but he made 9 of 10 free throws against the Mountaineers, including five in the final 34 seconds to secure the win. He also had five rebounds and a career-best two blocked shots for the Greyhounds (4-4 overall)
This season, Walker leads Loyola in assists (29) and is second on the team in scoring (13.9 points per game. He tops the Patriot League and is 28th in NCAA Division I with a 91.4 percent mark from the free-throw line.
Walker's award is the second of his career and first this season. The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 7, as they make the short trip to take on Towson University in a 7 p.m. contest.
