NEW YORK, N.Y. - Loyola University Maryland's indoor track team returned to action on Saturday evening when the Greyhounds travelled to New York City to compete in the Towson Invitational.
The meet featured teams from 20 different schools and was hosted by the Armory Foundation, located in the Fort Washington area of Manhattan just south of the George Washington Bridge.
Three Greyhounds placed in the top ten in the 3000-meter run as senior Sarah Askine finished eighth with a time of 10:47.15. She was followed by Christina Daniels, who was 11th (10:53.51), and sophomore Mary Sutton, who was 19th (11:29.65).
Loyola also did well in the one-mile run, placing five runners among the top 25. Sophomore Courtney Wallace led the Hounds by finishing 15th with a time of 5:33.36. Freshman Kayleigh Caggiano finished right behind her teammate as she placed 16th (5:39.24). Freshman Grace Jansson took 18th place (5:40.20) while senior Caitlyn McGuinness finished 2st (5:47.47). Freshman Kelly Williamson completed the race with a time of 5:48.24, finishing 22nd in the competition.
In the 200-dash, senior Claire Scavone took 40th place (27.94) while freshman Audrey O'Neill turned in a 12th-place finish in the 1000-run (3:14.43).
In the 400-dash, sophomore Molly Smith finished 24th (1:01.94) while freshman Molly Johnson took 25th place (1:02.57).
In the 4x400 relay, Jordan Vine, Molly Johnson, Heather Merrifeld and Molly Smith teamed up to finish 16th in the meet with a time of 4:10.69.
Sophomore Anne Laudner also had a busy night for Loyola. She finished 16th in the triple jump at 10.65 meters. She also took 29th place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.91 seconds.
Freshman Bre Mucius led Loyola in the 60-hurdles by taking 27th place with a time of 9.71 seconds. Sophomore Christa Sidoti was 32nd (10.14) while Erin Gamble was 34th (10.17).
In the 500-dash, sophomore Mary Ellen Woods finished with a time of 1:19.85.
Loyola returns to action next Satruday when the Greyhounds compete in the Maryland Terrapin Invitational. The meet will be held at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md.
