Four Greyhounds Selected In Major League Lacrosse Draft

BALTIMORE – Four Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse alumni were selected in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Entry Draft on Sunday. Brian Sherlock and Graham Savio will join the Charlotte Hounds, while Romar Dennis was drafted by the Denver Outlaws and Jack Carrigan by the New York Lizards.
The quartet brings the number of Greyhounds affiliated with MLL rosters to 13.
Sherlock was the first Loyola player off the board as Charlotte picked him up with the sixth pick of the third round (24th overall). Dennis was tabbed a round later with the seventh selection in the fourth (34th) by the Outlaws.
Savio and Carrigan were both 10th-round picks, going to the Hounds and Lizards with the sixth and ninth selections in the round (87th and 90th).
All four players earned All-Patriot League honors at points during their careers with Sherlock becoming the first midfielder in conference history to be a four-time first team honoree. Dennis earned second team recognition in 2016 and 2017, and Carrigan joined him on the second team this season. Savio was an All-League Second Team selection in 2015.
Last week, Sherlock earned United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Third Team honors, and Carrigan joined Sherlock on the Inside Lacrosse All-America Team earlier this month.
Sherlock became Loyola's 16th three-time All-American after picking up third team honors from the USILA. He was the Greyhounds' first three-time team captain at the Division I level who also was a four-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree, the first midfielder to earn such recognition in conference history. He ended his senior season tied for second on the team with 24 goals to go with six assists for 30 points. Sherlock concluded his four years at Loyola with 96 goals, 48 assists and 144 points; his goal total ranks 11th in school history, while his points are tied for 14th. At the end of the regular-season, he was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year as the top student-athlete in the sport.
Dennis earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors for the second year in a row this season. In 16 games during 2017, he scored 17 goals to go with eight assists for the Greyhounds. The midfielder tallied 82 points in four years with 55 goals and 30 assists.
Savio became the Loyola and Patriot League career leader in faceoffs won during the 2017 season and finished his senior campaign winning 57.8 percent of draws (204-of-353). He picked up a team-high 103 ground balls (6.44 per game) and scored a career-best four goals off faceoffs, as well, this year. Savio wrapped up his collegiate career winning 56.4 percent of faceoffs over the last four years (710-of-1259). His 710 faceoffs won rank 15th all-time in NCAA Division I history.
Carrigan played some of his top lacrosse late in the season while earning Inside Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention and All-Patriot League Second Team honors. He had two or more caused turnovers in seven of the Greyhounds' final eight games and five times had three or more. Carrigan finished the year with 51 ground balls and 29 caused turnovers, career-highs in both categories. A two-time team captain, he averaged 4.57 groundballs per game in Loyola's last seven contests. Carrigan wrapped up his career with 130 ground balls and 71 caused turnovers; his caused turnover total ranks fifth in school history.
