BALTIMORE -
The Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Monday night, as they fell to the Pittsburgh Panthers, 1-0, in front of 1,307 fans at Ridley Athletic Complex.

The Greyhounds (2-1-1 overall) and Panthers (2-2-0) played a physical game, with the two squads being whistled for a combined 39 fouls throughout the 90 minutes. For the match, Loyola outshot Pittsburgh, 8-4, but it was the 31st minute, when Panther forward Alexander Dexter netted a long ball from Robby Dambrot, that proved to be the difference maker.

Sophomore Morgan Lussi had the game's first scoring chance in the 12th minute, but Pitt goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt made a diving save on his 25-yard blast.

Loyola's best chance to score an equalizer came in the 77th minute when freshman Sam Brown ran to the net with a breakaway but touched a long ball from junior Jacob Campbell too far, causing him to lose control of the ball. Brown had another opportunity one minute later as he received a through ball from Sharifi, but he was unable to capitalize.

The Greyhounds will look to rebound on Saturday as they take on Villanova. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Ridley Athletic Complex.
