BALTIMORE - A pair of Loyola University Maryland men's and women's lacrosse players - senior
Pat Spencer and sophomore
Livy Rosenzweig - have been named to the
Inside Lacrosse Top 50 Players, as publicized in the magazine's hard copy November edition. Spencer is the top-ranked male and second overall player, and Rosenzweig is the 13th-ranked female and No. 29 ranked player overall.
Spencer, the first player in Loyola history to earn the Lt. Col. J.I. (Jack) Turnbull Award as the nation's top attackman was one of two Greyhounds to earn first-team All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) in 2018. The Turnbull Award has been given since 1946 to the top attackman in the game. Spencer's honor marked the second time in school history a Loyola player has picked up one of the USILA's top positional awards (Joe Fletcher, 2014, William Schmeisser Award, Defender of the Year).
An attacker from Davidsonville, Maryland, Spencer broke multiple records during his junior season, becoming the school's single-season record-holder in both assists (59) and points (94). He also set the school's career assists mark during the year and enters his final season with 166. In the 2018 NCAA Quarterfinals, Spencer became the 10th player in Loyola history to score 100 career goals, and his 266 career points are good for second all-time for the Greyhounds.
In addition to his school records, he has shattered the Patriot League's career records for assists and points, and he broke his own conference record for single-season assists.
Spencer, the three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist, ranks 10th in NCAA history in career assists (166), and he is tied for 28th in career points (266). Last season, he posted 11 games with five or more points in the Greyhounds' 17 outings. He tallied nine twice and tied the school record with 12 points on four goals and eight assists at the U.S. Naval Academy in March.
Rosenzweig, an attacker from Katonah, New York, had an outstanding first season for the Greyhounds, becoming the first player at Loyola - male or female - to record 100 points in a season. With 102 points, she not only set the school record for single-season points, but the program's Freshman Records for points, assists (47) and draw controls (89), while her eight assists against Colgate broke Loyola's single-game record.
The Patriot League Rookie of the Year, Rosenzweig was also the lone rookie included on the All-Patriot League First Team. She was also one of three freshmen honored on the 36-member All-Mid-Atlantic Region First or Second Team, garnering first-team accolades, and is one of three freshmen to earn an IWLCA All-America distinction, being placed on the third team.
Nationally, Rosenzweig was one of just 12 players last season to reach 100 points, and she was the lone freshman to do so. The top-ranked freshman in points per game, Rosenzweig's 4.86 per game average ranked 14th nationally, while her 47 assists tied for 13th and was the top performance for a rookie last year.
The Greyhounds' women's team will host North Carolina in a Fall Ball event on Saturday and a Play Day on Sunday. The men's team hosted their lone fall ball event against outside competition on Saturday against Villanova.
