BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland tennis competed over the weekend at the nearby Morgan State 4+1 Tournament, winning a host of matches against regional competition.
The Loyola women downed Patriot League foe Bucknell University, 4-0, and fellow Cold Spring Lane-school Morgan State University, 3-2. The Greyhounds women also took on George Mason (L, 4-1) and Georgetown (L, 3-0), while the men played Georgetown (L, 3-0).
Against Bucknell,
Kateri Martin defeated Mishi Papich in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1, and
Abigail Thornton outlasted Sofia Ayus, 2-6, 6-2, (10-8).
Sandra Aguirre completed the singles' sweep for Loyola with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jillian Auteri.
Genevieve Wurtz and
Brooke Santoriello teamed to knock off Rachel Carroll and Danielle Gannon, 6-2, 6-0, in doubles action.
In the match against Morgan State, Martin was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Peggy Rooke, while Thornton took down Dana Santiago, 7-6 (3), 6-1. The Bears' Oriane Yeheounou topped Wurtz, 6-1, 6-2, but Santoriello scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Alexis Gill. Morgan State's Asmara Rose and Averiana Mitchell held on to edge

Georgetown got past the women's team, 3-0, as Risa nakagawa beat Martin, 6-4, 6-2, and Lindsay Zimmerman was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Decker. Sofie Moenster and Cecilia Lynhaus bested Wurtz and Santoriello, 6-1, 6-2 in doubles.
Alexandria Agee scored for the Greyhounds against George Mason, beating Kayleigh Hahn, 4-6, 7-5, (10-7), but the Patriots won the other four matches. Marium Raza beat Wurtz, 4-6, 6-2, (10-7), and Christine McCarthy took three sets to get past Santoriello, 6-4, 4-6, (10-5). In doubles, Sydney Green and Brianna Gibbs were 6-1, 7-5 winners over Martin and Thornton, while Hannah Cianciola and Jackie Nannery beat Decker and Aguirre, 6-4, 6-7 (6), (10-8).
On the men's side, the Greyhounds lost to Georgetown, 5-0. Mike Chen beat
Kyle Gower, 6-2, 6-1, and Luke Ross got by
Benny Glezer, 6-1, 6-2. Justin Cheun was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over
Edik Pribitkin, while Cesar Cernuda topped
Colin Corsini, 6-2, 6-3. Rohan Kamdar and Connor Lee bested
C.J. Cash and
Colin Kanuch, 6-1, 6-2, in doubles.
