Quick Hits About The Hounds

  • Loyola University Maryland men's basketball returns to Reitz Arena on Sunday, February 18, for its first of last two home games of the 2017-2018 regular-season.
  • The Greyhounds will host Colgate University in a 2 p.m. game that will air live on the Patriot League Network.
  • Against Lafayette on February 11, Andre Walker became the eighth player in school history to score 1,600 points,; he also became the second at Loyola to make 200 or more 3-pointers.
  • Earlier this month, he moved into eighth all-time at Loyola and is one of 19 players in Patriot League history to score 1,600 or more points during his career.
  • Cam Gregory is 30th in all of NCAA Division I and leads the Patriot League in offensive rebounds per game (3.2), and he also is second in the league and 85th nationally in overall rebounding (8.2).

Series History Versus Colgate

  • Loyola and Colgate will meet for the 10th time as Patriot League foes and the 12th time overall when the teams take the floor on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Raiders took a 7-4 lead in the all-time series with a 77-72 victory on January 20, 2018, in Hamilton, New York.
  • The home team had won each time that the sides met as Patriot League opponents until Colgate's victory on February 19, 2017, in Baltimore.
  • An Andre Walker 3-pointer with 2:07 left in regulation gave Loyola a 69-67 lead, but Colgate scored six-straight points and held off the visiting Greyhounds, 77-72, in the teams' first meeting this season. The Raiders went 23 of 26 from the free-throw line in the game, including a 19 of 22 mark in the second half to help seal the game.
  • Walker finished with a game-high 22 points, his third-straight outing with 20 or more. He moved into ninth-place all-time at Loyola and became the 32nd player in Patriot League history with 1,500 or more points in a career.
  • Colgate took a 27-23 lead with 4:13 left in the first half on a Jordan Burns layup, but Walker sparked a Loyola run that put the Greyhounds in front at the half. He scored 13 points during a 13-2 run, hitting three 3-pointers during the stretch, as Loyola went up, 36-29, at halftime.
  • The Raiders, however, scored nine of the second half's first 11 points, and a Dana Batt basket at 17:52 tied the game at 38-38. Andrew Kostecka bookended a Burns basket with two of his own to put Loyola in front, 42-40, at 16:43, but Batt scored at 16:17, and Sean O'Brien connected on a jumper four seconds later following an offensive rebound off a Batt free throw to give Colgate a 44-42 advantage.
  • Chuck Champion momentarily pushed Loyola in front by one, 47-46, with a 3-pointer at 13:11, but 21 ticks later Jordan Swopshire responded with a Colgate three to give the Raiders a two-point advantage.
  • A Kostecka three at 9:55 tied the game at 55-55, and Walker drove and fed Sam Norton for a three at 8:58, giving Loyola a 3-point advantage. Colgate, however, came back to retake the lead until Walker's late three.
  • Swopshire made two free throws at 1:45 after Walker's last three to give the Raiders the lead, and Burns hit a three with 50.3 seconds left to make the advantage four.
  • Burns led Colgate with 20 points, while Batt added 16 and Jordan Robertson finisehd with 13.
  • Walker paced four Greyhounds in double-figures with 22, while Champion had 14, Cam Gregory, 13 and Kostecka, 11.

Last Time Out

  • Loyola cut Bucknell's lead to six with 2:06 left in the first half, but the Bison scored nine of the half's final 11 points, and the Bison went on to a 94-53 victory Wednesday night in Patriot League action at Sojka Pavilion.
  • Bucknell had been up by as many as 13 midway through the first half, but an Andre Walker 3-pointer started a 12-7 Loyola run that saw it get within six, 35-29, on an Andrew Kostecka free throw.
  • The Bison, however, came back with a basket in the paint by Nana Foulland and a Nate Jones three to push back up by 11. Stephen Brown scored in the lane as part of his game-high 20 points with less than 40 seconds to go, and it was a 13-point advantage, but Isaiah Hart converted on a drive with 5.1 ticks left in the stanza to pull the Greyhounds within 11.
  • Brown, however, was fouled with 1.1 on the first-half clock, and he made two free throws to send the teams to the locker room with Bucknell in front, 44-31.
  • The Bison came out of halftime and scored the first 10 points to go up 54-31 on a Foulland basket with 16:08 left in regulation.
  • Foulland was one of four Bison in double-figures with 15 points. Nate Sestina added 18, while Zach Thomas had 12.
  • Hart led Loyola with 12 points and four assists, and Andrew Kostecka tallied 10. Cam Gregory posted a game-high 11 rebounds.

Hart Heats Up

  • Isaiah Hart made 7 of 12 second-half shots December 2 at Mount St. Mary's and tallied 16 of his team-high 26 points after the break. Hart's 26 points were the most by a Loyola freshman since Jamal Hunter scored 27 points in a March 1, 1998, game at Iona College.
  • Hart is averaging 11.1 points in Patriot League games, and 10.8 overall, this season. In the last 22 games, Hart has averaged 12.1 points over, and since joining the starting lineup on November 21 against Goucher, he has averaged 11.3 points. He has scored fewer than nine points just four times since Dec. 2.
  • Over the last three games, Hart has averaged 14.0 points while shooting 56 percent from the field (14 of 25). He has led the Greyhounds in scoring in two of those games.

Sticky Fingers

  • Loyola had steals on six-straight Lehigh possessions late in the second half on January 24, and the Greyhounds finished with 15 for the game. Over the last five games, Loyola has had two of the top 18 single-game steal totals in school history.
  • The Greyhounds finished their January 17 game against Bucknell with 14 steals, the most by a Greyhounds' team since it had 19 in a December 3, 2011, win at Siena.
  • Loyola in second in the Patriot League in steals per game this season (7.5), and in conference play, it is averaging 7.7 takeaways for a total of 115 in 15 games.
  • Andrew Kostecka had six steals against Bucknell ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" a total tied for fifth in school single-game history ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" five at Lehigh and four against Army West Point.
  • Overall, Kostecka has a team-high 47 steals this year, an average of 2.2 per game that ranks 17th nationally and first in the Patriot League. The sophomore guard has logged three or more steals seven times this season.

Walker In Patriot League Action

  • Andre Walker has scored 15 or more points in 11 of the Greyhounds' 15 Patriot League games so far this year, and he has five outings with 22 or more to average 19.1 in conference games, second most in the League during that stretch.
  • In his 65th career conference game, Walker reached the 1,000-point mark against League opponents and now has 1,042 in his 69 career games, and he has averaged 15.1 points in Patriot League games.
  • With 1,608 points, Walker is eighth on the school's all-time points list. Against Lafayette in the 2017 Patriot League First Round, he became the 10th player in school history with 300-plus assists and is sixth with 378. His 191 steals are second all-time, and he is third in 3-pointers made with 204.
  • Walker grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds at Lehigh to log his first career double-double with 32 points.

Top-4 Territory

  • Cam Gregory grabbed 11 rebounds on January 8 at Holy Cross, a performance which moved him past three former Greyhounds and into fourth place on the school's all-time rebounds chart. Mark Rohde (1972-76) is third all-time with 836, and Farrell Fenzel (1966-70) is second with 879.
  • On January 27, he became the fourth Loyola player, and the seventh in Patriot League history to grab 800 or more rebounds and now has 834. With two more rebounds, he will pass Rohde for third alltime at Loyola. Gregory is also the school's career leader in field-goal percentage (58.5).

Kostecka Keys

  • After coming off the bench since injuring an ankle on November 28 against UMass Lowell and missing four games, Andrew Kostecka rejoined Loyola's starting lineup against Lafayette on January 14.
  • In games against Lehigh and Army West Point, he averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 assists and 4.5 steals in two wins.
  • Defensively, he is among the Patriot League leaders in both steals and blocked shots per game, checking in first in swipes (2.2) and fourth in swats (1.1).

Champion Debuts

  • Chuck Champion missed the first five games of the 2017-2018 season before debuting at Dartmouth. He opened in a big way, scoring a career-high 26 points while making 12 of 15 shots from the field. Champion tallied 15 of his points in the first half after checking in four minutes into play, and he missed only misfired on one of his eight attempts from the field before the break.
  • Champion has scored 11 or more points in 14 of the 21 games he's played this year, and he has posted 14 or more points eight times. He is currently second on the team with a 12.0 points per game mark.

Norton Making An Impact

  • Sam Norton scored a career-high nine points, and he matched his previous best with five rebounds, in the win over Navy. Norton, a junior walk-on, saw 19 minutes of action, his most since a wrist injury on November 28 forced him to miss four games. He made all three of his field goals and all three free throws he attempted against the Navy, scoring all of his points in the game's final 17 minutes.
  • He then played a then-career-high 28 minutes at Army West Point and upped his career-best to six rebounds; he matched both of those numbers in the win over Boston University. In the win at Lehigh, Norton logged 38 minutes of action, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds. He knocked down a three and scored in the paint in double-overtime. At Boston University, Norton started and tied his career-best with nine points.
  • Norton pulled down seven boards in a win over American on February 7 for a new career-high. In 15 Patriot League games, he is averaging 3.9 rebounds per contest.

Cardiac Kids

  • Loyola has overcome significant first-half and halftime margins to win its last two of its last three victories. The Greyhounds rallied from 17 down in the first half, 10 at the break, on January 24 at Lehigh, before coming back from 12 and nine on January 27 against Army West Point.
  • In those two games, the Greyhounds were outscored, 39.5-30.0, and outshot, 53.7-36.2 percent, in the first halves. After halftime ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" including the two overtime periods against the Mountain Hawks ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Loyola outscored its foes, 55.0-38.5, while outshooting them, 48.6-36.7.

Andre's Big Day

  • Andre Walker scored 43 points on January 14 against Lafayette, the most by a Loyola player since the school moved to NCAA Division I in 1981-82, by going 16 of 26 from the field.
  • Walker's 43 points are the most in a Patriot League regular-season game since Lafayette's Brian Burke tallied the same number against Lehigh on February 20, 2002. The 43 points are tied for second in Patriot League regular-season history behind Holy Cross Rob Feaster's 46 against Navy in 1994. Army's Chris Spatola (2001 vs. Lafayette) and Burke also scored 43 in a game.

Returning To Health

  • Loyola's December 21 game saw the Greyhounds have its most healthy and active players of the season with just one ( Chancellor Barnard) missing due to an injury.
  • Loyola has used nine different starting lineups this year, and Greyhounds players have missed a combined 72 games because of illness or injury through Feb. 14.
