Three Loyola University Maryland alums -- Siobhan Prior, Michael Tuck and Shane Walker -- were named to the English Teams that will compete at the 2018 Commonwealth Games next month in Australia.
Prior will compete for the women's team, while Tuck and Walker will suit up for the men. The games begin on April 4, and the English teams will be making their first appearances since 2006 when England's men and women both earned bronze medals.
Tuck and Walker both earned All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honors for the Loyola men's basketball team during their time on the Evergreen campus. Tuck was a third-team honoree as a senior in 2007-08 and the league's Sixth Player of the Year in 2006-07. Walker earned third-team recognition in 2010-11 and then helped the Greyhounds win the MAAC Championship the following season during his senior year.
"It's just amazing to be part of it and it's all starting to be real now," Walker told gbbasketball.com. "I've known the guys for a while, and it's going to be great to compete with them. I've grown up competing with these guys in the England Under 18s, 20s teams and it's now going to be an amazing opportunity to compete with them on a global stage."
Prior is one of six players in school women's history to make 100 or more 3-pointers. She graduated from Loyola in 2009 with 102 3-pointers made. She currently is a standout guard for her hometown Nottingham Wildcats in the Women's British Basketball League.
Tuck and Walker have had highlight careers in the British Basketball League for the DBL Sheffield Sharks and Leicester Riders, respectively.
Both English teams will play preliminary games in Townsville, Queensland, Australia, before the semifinal and medal matches on the country's Gold Coast.
