Golfers Fourth After Two Rounds Of Rutherford Intercollegiate

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Loyola University Maryland golf team is in fourth place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate after turning in the second-best second-round score Saturday afternoon at the Penn State Golf Course. With a 1-under 283, the Greyhounds trailed only host Penn State through the round and moved ahead of Seton Hall by one stroke heading into tomorrow's final round.

Junior Erick Alonso shaved three strokes off of his first-round score to improve 12 spots and finish the first day tied for fifth overall. Alonso turned in an even 71 through the first round and shot 3-under 68 through the second. He has a two-round score of 3-under 139.

Senior Jeremy Wall is second for Loyola, and tied for 14th overall, with an even 142 (70-72), while freshman Brett Inserra is tied for 26th overall. Inserra turned in a pair of 73s to finish the day at 3-over 146.

Senior Brendan Peel rounds out the scoring Greyhounds, as classmate Bennett Wisner withdrew for illness. Peel is tied for 38th at 6-over 148 (78-70).

Senior Ethan Wall, competing as an individual, is tied for 18th overall with a 1-over 143 (70-73).

The NIttany Lions lead the teams with a 12-under 556, while they're followed by Oakland at 4-under 564 and West Virginia (567, -1).

Oakland's Marc Norton and Penn State's Cole Miller share the top spot among the individuals, as each are at 7-under 135.

The final round will take place Sunday morning.
