PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Jeremy Wall and junior Erick Alonso finished tied for fifth at the Princeton Invitational Saturday afternoon, while the Loyola University Maryland golf team took third out of the 12 team field at Springdale Golf Club.
Alonso, playing as an individual, shot a 2-under 69 today, while Wall turned in a 3-over 74. The duo finished tied for fifth with four others at an even 142 through the weather-shortened, two-round tournament.
As a team, Loyola took third with a score of 575. Yale shot 3-under today to win the tournament with a 570, while Pennsylvania was second at 573. The Greyhounds held a one-stroke lead over Princeton and Cornell, which finished tied for fourth at 576.
Senior Brendan Peel led the Greyhounds with a 1-under 70 today, while classmate Bennett Wisner shot a 2-over 73, and senior Ethan Wall and freshman Brett Inserra turned in 3-over 74s. For the tournament, Wisner finished tied for 11th at 143, Peel was tied for 16th at 144, Inserra tied for 23rd at 146 and Ethan Wall was tied for 47th at 150.
Cornell's Mike Graboyes won the event with a 6-under 136. He was followed by Yale's James Nicholas (137, -5), Pennsylvania's Carter Thompson (139, -3) and Princeton's Evan Quinn (141, -1).
The Greyhounds will return to play on Saturday when they travel to University Park, Pennsylvania, for the two-day Rutherford Intercollegiate.
